Girlguiding is all about fun, friends and new experiences. Shine is always prepared to lend a hand to all the girls and leaders across Stockport as they keep their promise, do their best, be true to themselves, develop their beliefs, serve the Queen and community, help other people and keep the Guide law while her guiding light is shining bright.

“Our aim is that Stockport is a place where everyone is experiencing the very best Guiding, having fun and working together. Our members challenge themselves, try new activities and build lasting friendships. Our programme includes lots of outdoor adventures, science and technology activities alongside crafts, games and lots of singing! Girlguiding Stockport exists thanks to a team of over 700 adult volunteers who are committed to providing stimulating and imaginative programmes for nearly 200 Rainbow, Brownie, Guide & Ranger units across all age ranges, bringing guiding to over 3000 girls. We are proud to welcome all girls whatever their faith, race, culture, nationality or sexual orientation. Our Frog represents our vision to leap forward into the future where we will have enough volunteers for every girl who wants to be part of our organisation and no girls will be left on the waiting list.”
Lovingly created by Kirsty Brown
A freelance scenic artist and prop-maker, Kirsty trained in Fine Art at the University of Chester, with a focus on sculpture, before completing the Scenehouse programme to specialise on creating scenery for theatre or events.
“I balance my time between making commissions, regular contracts for stage technician work and teaching craft classes in from my “Creations by the Kirst” art studio in Buxton. Kirsty designed and painted “This Little Guiding Frog of Mine”, Girlguiding Stockport’s frog for the 2019 frog art trail.
“I am delighted to have designed and painted Shine for the 2021 Gigantic Leap Frog Art Trail. I believe Shine represents the vibrancy and strength of Girlguiding within the local community. I am a proud member of Girlguiding, have been a leader over 10 years, currently help run three units as well as being County Arts Award Adviser, facilitating young members in discovering a broad spectrum of arts subjects and inspiring them to share their creative skills.”
